Stackpole Estate - Grade 1 Designed Landscape
At Stackpole is an 18th century designed landscape, created by the Earls of Cawdor, to provide a beautiful setting for their mansion. Stackpole Court. Three narrow valleys were damned to form lakes. Groves were planted, garden structures, walled garden areas and wilderness areas were created. The work took place over eighty years, being completed in 1860. The mansion was demolished in 1963, although structures such as an ice house remain. In 1976 this man-made landscape was taken over by the National Trust. Wildlife has flourished. It has become a National Nature Reserve and it is also a popular visitor attraction, namely Bosherston Lily Ponds or Bosherston Lakes. Below is a short video filmed around Bosherston Lakes, by kind permission of Paul.
